Clube de Regatas do Flamengo
was born in 1895 as a rowing team.
Founded in the Rio de Janeiro neighbourhood that gave it its name, the club emerged from a group of friends passionate about the sea and competition.
Rowing ruled the city then, but a new passion was rising, and Flamengo was destined to lead it.
Clube de Regatas do Flamengo
came to Flamengo in 1911, when a Fluminense player, Alberto Borgerth, proposed creating a football section at Flamengo, where he was already a rower.
The new team quickly drew attention and rose to fame on May 3, 1912, when Mengo played its first match, winning 15–2 over Mangueira. From that day, the game changed forever.
